Multi-Faith Chaplaincy and Community Service Guideline

Section 1 - Purpose and Scope

(1) This Guideline supports the Multi-Faith Chaplaincy and Community Service Policy.

Section 2 - Standing of Faith or Community Bodies

(2) The following will be considered when assessing the suitability of faith or community bodies for UQ standing:

  1. Any previous standing granted by UQ or other universities and associated activity;
  2. The broad position and reputation of the body in Australian Society;
  3. Recognition by the:
    1. Australian Taxation Office (ATO)
    2. Australian Business Register
    3. Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission;
  4. The likelihood of relevance of the faith or community body for the UQ Community; and
  5. Demonstration of the body’s ability, capacity, and willingness to embrace and abide by the requirements of the Multi-Faith Chaplaincy and Community Service Policy.

Section 3 - Appointment of Chaplains

(3) The following will be considered when assessing applications to be a UQ Chaplain:

  1. The person must be nominated by a faith or community body that has current UQ standing;
  2. Any previous appointment of the person by UQ or other universities and associated activity;
  3. Demonstration of reputable character and good standing of the person;
  4. The likelihood that the person would contribute positively to the UQ Community; and
  5. Demonstration of the person’s ability, capacity, and willingness to embrace and abide by the requirements of the Multi-Faith Chaplaincy and Community Service Policy.
