(1) This Policy outlines the principles and requirements governing admission to The University of Queensland (UQ). (2) The Policy applies to all applicants seeking admission to a UQ program or non-award study, except: (3) The Policy is supported by the: (4) Admission requirements are outlined in the procedures and are available through the UQ website. (5) UQ will conduct its admissions processes based on the following principles: (6) The Policy and Procedures will be applied in a consistent, transparent and equitable way. (7) Clear admission requirements will be provided to assist prospective students to make informed decisions. (8) Selection criteria will be used for programs or courses which have limited places. (9) Admission requirements will be set to ensure students have the necessary level of academic capability to succeed in their studies. (10) Admission requirements include minimum academic achievements, demonstrated English Language Proficiency, and any other university, program or course level requirements. (11) Meeting minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission. (12) An offer of admission may only be made to an applicant who has satisfied the admission requirements and any selection criteria. (13) UQ will establish admission schemes to support applicants with educationally disadvantaged backgrounds to gain admission. Admission schemes will be established in accordance with the procedures, and in these schemes additional or alternative criteria may be considered when assessing an individual’s academic merit and potential for success. (14) All students admitted to UQ must comply with all: (15) UQ may refuse or withdraw an offer of admission in accordance with the procedures. (16) Offers of admission for fee-paying and Commonwealth supported places are approved by the Academic Registrar and administered by Admissions (Domestic) and International Admissions, Schools, and Faculties of UQ. (17) The detailed roles and responsibilities for admission are listed in the procedures. (18) The Vice-Chancellor may, under exceptional circumstances, waive strict application of this Policy or authorise manual offers for specific applicants, subject to conditions. Before doing so, the Vice-Chancellor will consult with the Executive Dean, the President of the Academic Board, and the Academic Registrar. (19) Periodic reviews are initiated by the Academic Registrar to ensure the effectiveness of this Policy, with changes considered by University governance. (20) Compliance is overseen by the Academic Registrar and the Academic Board's Committee for Academic Programs Policy, through its Coursework Admission Standards Sub-Committee.Admission Policy

Definition
Admission
Assessment and selection of a person to undertake studies at UQ resulting in an offer of place.
Admission requirements
Requirements that must be met to be eligible for admission to a program. Also referred to as ‘entry requirements’ at UQ.
Applicant
A person applying to study at UQ.
Admission scheme
A scheme with additional or alternative criteria for admission to a program, which has been approved by the Vice-Chancellor on the recommendation of the Academic Board.
Course
A distinct unit of study for which a grade is given. Each course is identified by its alphanumeric code, a title and a fixed unit value.
Educationally Disadvantaged
Individuals that have experienced disadvantage in their ability to access or pursue education. This may include persons that:
•are from non-English speaking backgrounds
•have a disability
•are women in non-traditional areas
•identify as Indigenous (Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander)
•are from low SES (socioeconomic status) locations
•are from regional and/or remote locations; and
•are on humanitarian visas.
Non-award study
Where a person is enrolled to study one or more courses without being admitted to a program, including University experience programs and cross-institutional study.
Program
An approved sequence of study leading to the award of a UQ qualification such as an undergraduate degree or diploma, a postgraduate coursework qualification, or a higher degree by research.
Selection Criteria
The criteria used to assess an applicant’s competitiveness compared to others after accounting for all relevant adjustments.
Student
A person enrolled at UQ.
